Dr. Cheryl Cooper
Dr. Cheryl Cooper is a US Naval Veteran, holding a Doctorate in Computer Science, Information Assurance. She is a speaker and author. In her corporate position as a Business Information Security Officer with a Fortune 50 company, she is considered a cybersecurity thought leader. Cheryl has 15+ years of Cybersecurity experience and 12+ years teaching higher education as an adjunct professor.

Dr. Cooper is the author of the memoir, Hood to Hooded, A Black Woman’s Choice to Rise. Her motivation for sharing her experience of not having a mentor throughout the years, is to spark urgency in the support for mentoring marginalized young women and girls. American Award-winning journalist Cynthia Newsome of KSHB News, noted in her foreword, “This book provides insight into the Black woman’s experience that will help generations of women who follow.”
As the founder of Women in Security Mentors, Cheryl speaks to audiences of all sizes and ages and is a popular panelist and speaker. She uses her platform to advocate for and create equal opportunities for women and minorities in technology careers. Her passion for helping others is clearly demonstrated through a variety of community initiatives. Dr. Cooper is the recipient of multiple awards including being a champion and a bridge builder.
